2010 Soccer World Cup, accommodation and other myths

Many a myth surrounds the forthcoming soccer world cup as far as accommodation is concerned, particularly home rentals by private individuals. For Bed and Breakfasts; Hotels and other commercial accommodation, my personal feeling is you will all be fully booked during this period, irrespective of where you have listed; who you have joined and whatever marketing efforts you make, no problem. The big tip is to be realistic, in your pricing, and by offering fair value and giving fair and above average service, you will be doing yourself and us, South Africa, as the host country, a dis-service by doing anything less. For the home owners, with some beds, rooms or even your whole house available, I recommend you list with local holiday rental agents, tourism offices, and internet portals such as www.staysa.co.za  and others. Be realistic in your pricing. a fairly average suburban home is not suddenly going to be worth R5000 per day , you will end up with an empty home or even worse, dissatisfied clients who will justifiably feel "ripped off" and who will leave with a sour taste of South Africa. The second suggestion is to ensure a contract is drawn up, breakage deposits are in place and that you deal through a professional agent. Lastly, avoid the short bookings and go for a longer stay, no weekends; no over-nighters, these are risky and you are placing the safety of your belongings at stake. We are in no way associated with FIFA and do suggest potential home renters research this process thoroughly and do not see 2010 as a way to make an unfair or unrealistic "fortune".
