The province of Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa is situated along the North East coast with the Indian Ocean as the border in the East, and the Drakensberg mountains in the West. More inland is the battlefield area with names like Rorke's Drift, Colenso and Spionkop, famous battle sites where the guns of the British soldiers clashed time after time with the spears of the Zulu warriors, leaving trails of blood and an atmosphere of wonder and legend. Dingaan and Shaka, Piet Retief, the Red Coats, Vasco Da Gama, the history of the battlefields and famous mariners are well preserved and for those who enjoy the history and the legends, a place not to miss.
The beaches of the North and South Coast of Kwazulu-natal are the summer playground of locals and visitors from Gauteng, Johannesburg and the other inland provinces of South Africa, offering stunning and safe beaches, scuba-diving, fishing and boating, every water based pastime. With the resort towns of Margate, Southbroom on the South Coast and Umhlanga, Ballito and Salt Rock, popular destinations along the North coast. The lake areas of Kosi Bay and St Lucia popular destinations for birding and diving, the Aliwal Shoal, a deep water reef near Umkomaas, a popular and world renowned dive site. More inland, the Drakensberg range makes an ideal area for the hiker, mountain climber or simply to relax and enjoy the sheer majesty. Kwazulu-Natal really does have something for everyone, the game parks of Hluhluwe, the world class golf courses and holiday resorts, history and sunshine, an ideal combination for a holiday.
TRAVEL INFORMATION - KWAZULU-NATAL - CLIMATE
The weather in Kwazulu-Natal is generally warm and sub-tropical throughout the year. In the winter the days are lovely, warm and dry with occasional cold spells, the night temperatures rarely get below 10 degrees with an average in the region of 23 degrees. Toward the inland areas, particularly as one goes higher into the Drakensberg mountains, snow falls are a regular occurrence, the climate is ideal for tourism and travel throughout the year. On summer it can become hot and humid with average temperatures at around 30 degrees. An ideal climate for year round travel. Rainfall is largely in the summer months with occasional winter showers.
