This area was formerly known as the lowveld, or low lying territory, a focal point of South Africa's tropical fruit industry, supplying fruit and vegetables to the more populated neighbouring province of Gauteng. This is game reserve country and home to the Kruger National Park, certainly South Africa's finest game reserve and one of the finest in the world, Kruger is supported by many privately owned reserves offering world class luxury accommodation. The N4 national road leads from Botswana through Johannesburg and Pretoria, in an Easterly direction into Mpumalanga, past the mineral mines at Secunda and Kinross. From then the landscape changes and so does the beauty of the towns, travel through Belfast and Waterval-Boven, one has two choices as the road separates, the scenic route is through the  Schoemanskloof pass, the N4 continues East en route toward Maputo and Mozambique. If you are going toward the Kruger National Park this is where you must look out to your left and select a route of choice. There are many beautiful stops and options for the traveller, Pilgrims Rest and the lovely scenery make this area one of the more picturesque travel regions in South Africa.
