Swaziland

Swaziland, commonly known as the Mountain Kingdom is a land locked independent country surrounded by South Africa.

Home of the proud Swazi nation and led by King Mswati, Swaziland is situated in the central - eastern section of Southern Africa. North of Kwazulunatal, a province of South Africa, Swaziland offers travellers a taste of the beauty Africa is able to offer.

With Mbabane as it's capital, access to Swaziland is usually by road from South Africa or by air from Johannesberg airport to Mbabane. The second largest town, Manzini, is joined to Mbabane by a busy road. If entering Swaziland by road the main border post is at Oshoek in the North West but if you have a little time to travel, the scenery approaching the border at Bulembu or Piggs peak is far more interesting. Visitors are advsed to check road conditions and also the border post operating times.

Swaziland is a mountainous region with a moderate climate ideal for tourism. In mid-winter, June to August, it can get cold, particularly in the higher areas.

Accommodation ranges from some world class Hotels and some very comfortable smaller accommodation establishments. Swaziland makes a lovely detour for the drive-yourself traveller who has ample time, often visited in combination with a visit to Mpumalanga and the Northern KZN areas .

The South Africa Rand is the main currency of Swaziland and tourism facilities are quite adequate in the main centres and along the main roads, if it is your plan to veer off these, further research is recommended.
